On site: Hands-On program at the Frankfurt Naxoshalle

During NODE20, we will also meet on-site at Frankfurt Naxoshalle. Together with FOR ALL PEOPLE, we invite you, to 3-day workshops about electronic music: How do you compose electronic sounds and what are the components of a synthesizer?

In the different workshops you will learn how to create new sounds and cool beats and how to make music together.

At the end of the workshop week on October 8th at 4:30pm UTC+2 we will give a final performance with our electronic orchestra on the MousonturmEmergency Broadcast Studio” stage.

Open Experimentation

In addition to the workshops, there will also some open activities for tinkering and trying things out in the Naxoshalle. Using the sensebox you can measure environmental data or you can participate in the Multispecies Care Survey and search for almost invisible creatures that live amongst us under the guidance of the Environmental Performance Agency. You can also join our virtual hackspace via VR portal!

#1 NO INPUT more MIXING

In the workshop NO INPUT more MIXING, analog mixing consoles mutate into musical instruments, so-called “no-input mixers”. The participants will learn –besides basic knowledge – how mixing consoles work, how to hack them and how to convert them into sound generators. In joint improv-sessions we will experiment with sounds.

#2 digital sound DIY

In this workshop you build your own synthesizer from the individual parts. We will get to know the basic building blocks of a synthesizer and will make an introduction to soldering. Afterwards we will make music with our self-made synthesizers.

#3 cell phones as instruments

In the workshop, sounds are recorded with smartphones, edited and reassembled into new sound structures. For example, if you cut away the beginning of a sound, it is hardly recognizable. Or a high sound of a triangle can be extremely slowed down and then sound like a deep gong. These and other sound experiments will be tried out in the workshop. You are welcome to bring your own sounds and your own smartphone – but this is not a prerequisite for participation.

How to join?

If you want to explore the VR portal and try out some soldering and tinkering, join drop by at Naxoshalle, Waldschmidtstraße 19 in Frankfurt, from October 3-8, 10:00 – 16:00h. Please beware that we cannot guarantee access due to health security reasons– you might have to wait a moment if it’s too crowded. Find the security concept of Naxoshalle here.

Unfortunately, we can only invite a limited number of participants for the music making workshops. Workshops are open for people from 10 – 17 years old. Please register in advance by sending an e-mail to info@digitale-welten-frankfurt.org – we will send you all the relevant information.
